African Social Development and Health Initiatives (ASDHI) provide a pool of skills, knowledge and know-how to effectively deliver health and social services in rural and fishing communities in Ssi Country, Uganda. These communities are extremely difficult to reach and have very high levels of poverty and little access to resources; as a result HIV prevalence is far higher than the Ugandan national average and treatment, testing and other medical services are in short supply.
TackleAfrica have been working with ASDHI since 2008, funding a football tournament which attracted 700 people who were then engaged in medical treatment and HIV testing services. Since then TackleAfrica have been regularly training local coaches, schoolteachers and fishermen to deliver HIV education through football coaching within their villages and landing points.
