TackleAfrica was founded in May 2002 by a group of young people from the UK who had all lived or worked in Africa at some point in their lives. Today, TackleAfrica works in ten African countries through links with local partners, is registered with its own Board in Zambia, and holds local registration in Kenya and Uganda. Our boards of Trustee Directors have a range of knowledge and experience in the areas of international development, fundraising, sport for development, finance, HIV, adolescent behavior, organisation development and law.
As part of our growth and desired move towards African-led operations, we are currently forming an East Africa Advisory Council of experienced practitioners to help provide strategic direction for the next step in our evolution and to respond better to the needs of the communities we serve. This is a voluntary, advisory role at this stage and you would not hold any governance or financial responsibilities within the organisation.
We are searching for members from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania who are passionate about our work, who want to help shape the future of TackleAfrica, and who have relevant experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, particularly of young people and key populations in East Africa
- Communications/marketing, especially digital marketing
- Fundraising in the NGO sector
- Football and/or Sport for Development
- Finance, governance, NGO administration
We envisage the Council meeting formally four times per year with monthly virtual contact through the year. In addition, members are encouraged to contribute directly to fundraising activities and marketing, participate in working groups, and offer advice and guidance to the teams in the UK and in Africa.
As a member of the East Africa Advisory Council, you will
- Leverage your networks to promote and expand the work of TackleAfrica
- Provide feedback and strategic guidance to improve the quality and impact of our work
- Participate in events and activities that ensure that we are fully engaged with the wider SRHR and sport for development sectors
- Provide your individual expertise and experience to better serve the communities in which we work
As a member of TackleAfrica you must be fully aligned with our stated core values and behaviours and be committed to helping TackleAfrica achieve its goals and ambitions.
TackleAfrica welcomes applications from a wide range of backgrounds, including from outside the NGO sector and from all protected characteristics. We particularly encourage applications at this time from:
- African Women
- People living with HIV
We would like these historically under-represented voices on our Advisory Council to contribute to our decision-making together and support our operational practices. We are committed to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in our hiring and operations.
