The Hoima Network of Child Rights Clubs (HONECRIC) in Hoima district, western Uganda, is one of our newer partners, but they have truly hit the ground running. With a massive 60 TackleAfrica coaches delivering weekly sessions under our BT Supporters Club and Laureus Sport For Good Foundation programmes, and 7 Project Officers supporting them, HONECRIC are now reaching 1,600 young people through their TackleAfrica football sessions every week. Every three months, players also get the chance to participate in a football tournament and access essential Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services in a judgement-free, youth-friendly environment.
HONECRIC’s TackleAfrica sessions combine SRHR information with football, with messages unfolding as players play the game. This means we take education out of the classroom or the clinic, and bring information to young people in a way that is interactive and most of all, fun! Young people don’t want to talk about sexual health at the best of times, but by using our innovative football methodology, HONECRIC players can learn and discuss healthier sexual lives in a relaxed and judgement-free environment.
With more funding, HONECRIC assure us they can keep expanding their TackleAfrica programme to more schools in Hoima district, training more coaches in our methodology and bringing SRHR information and services to many more young people where they need it most. A huge “webale” (thank you) from everyone at TackleAfrica for your incredible achievements.
