Today, just in time for Valentine’s Day, is International Condom Day. Since condoms are the only method of contraception that protects you from HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancy all at the same time, it’s no wonder we’re big fans of these little lifesavers!
Here are some facts and figures about our favourite contraception:
Condoms are relatively cheap and widely available. In most places we work in Africa, governments provide them for free since they’re such an essential part of the fight against HIV.
Condoms come in different shapes, sizes, materials, textures, colours and flavours so you can always find the best one for you. You can get male and female condoms, although female condoms can take a bit of practise to use correctly.
Condoms have no side effects unlike some other contraception (if you’re allergic to latex or the lube, there are other materials available).
So today, we wish you all a very happy International Condom Day, and a lifetime of safer sex!
