It was a fine spring evening as the 6 teams made their way to the delightful Sussex University pitches for the inaugural Brighton Corporate Football Tournament.
Firstly we would like to say a massive thank you to Clarke Goodhand Smith Ltd who generously sponsored the event.
A round robin tournament where each team played each other once with the top four going into the semi-finals and the bottom two fighting out for the plate.
So the 6 teams who competed:
The games came thick and fast with some interesting results as Brighton Marquees, the early tournament favourites, came unstuck against a dogged Itad team, their goalkeeper having a wonderful game.
Brandwatch were taking things seriously as they hijacked a corner to warm up.
Generation Press were looking good value as they won their first game against Tea & Busquets.
As the group games drew to a close there was a clear gap starting to appear with Brighton Marquee and MNF taking control of the group finishing with 13 and 11 points respectively. Generation Press pipped Brandwatch to 3rd on goal difference.
The plate final was decided – as Itad were to take on Tea & Busquets in what would be an epic game.
Tea & Busquets edging out Itad with a 3-1 victory crowning them the Category B Champions
The Semi Finals pitted first against fourth and second against third. Brighton Marquee conquering Brandwatch in a convincing 2-0 win as Generation Press beat MNF on penalties to secure the place in the Final.
The final was all set – Brighton Marquees against Generation Press – Two massive names in the Brighton corporate world – who would have the last laugh?
In the end Generation Press had nothing left in the tank against a (relatively) youthful Brighton Marquees side – as they BM marched to a 4-0 victory over their rivals.
